DPF headache on my Ford Transit

I’ve run a Ford Transit on site work for years. Solid van overall, carries the gear no problem, but the DPF is a nightmare if you’re not doing long runs. Mine started giving me the DPF light at about 100k miles. Around town it clogs up quick – you lose power, it drinks more diesel, and it feels like you’re pulling a trailer when you’re not. Had it cleaned once, cost me a fair bit, and a year later the same issue came back. On the motorway it clears itself better, but for builders like me who are in and out of jobs local, it’s a pain. Other than the DPF problem, the Transit’s decent – comfy cab, loads of room in the back, cheap enough for parts. But if you’re buying one used, I’d check the history and see if the DPF’s been sorted, or budget for it.

What I liked

Good load space, easy to drive, plenty of spares around.

Could be improved

Ford should fix the DPF issues – it lets the van down for lads using it on local jobs.

Economy, Performance, and Towing

Most modern Ford Transit vans achieve 38–44 mpg depending on payload and driving conditions. The 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engines are known for durability and easy maintenance, while mild-hybrid variants offer extra efficiency for stop-start urban use.

When it comes to towing, a properly equipped Transit can pull up to 3,500 kg, making it one of the strongest choices in its class. Adaptive Cruise Control, stability control and hill-assist features add safety and comfort on longer drives.

Interior, Technology, and Comfort

Inside, the Transit is built for long days on the road. Later models include SYNC 3 infotainment, Apple CarPlay, and multiple USB ports. The cab is practical yet comfortable, with wide visibility and plenty of storage.

Standard safety features include multiple airbags, tyre-pressure monitoring, and side-wind stabilisation. Many used models also feature built-in Ford Pass Connect with Wi-Fi hotspot and live vehicle-health data.
