On my second Kangoo now, this ones a 2016 Euro 6. Learned something expensive on the first one thats worth passing on - the pre 2013 K9K engines use Delphi injectors and they start failing around the 90k mark, the later ones use Siemens and are far better. My first one went through injectors and then took a piston with it, this one has done 172k with nothing but a clutch and a set of glow plugs. So check the year before you buy. Other bit of advice, change the fuel filter every 20k not the 40k in the book, water in the fuel is what kills the injectors and the pump. Use the proper low SAPS oil too, these engines are really intolerant of the wrong stuff going in. Getting about 46 mpg. Cheap honest little van and mine will do 250k plus at this rate. Just be aware the electrics are the weak point - my sliding door central locking stopped working and it turned out to be a broken wire inside the rubber boot in the door shut, which flexes every time you open it.

What I liked

Post 2013 Siemens injectors are far more reliable than the early Delphi ones, 46 mpg, cheap to buy and run, will do 250k plus if serviced properly, honest simple van

Could be improved

Pre 2013 Delphi injectors start failing around 90k and can take a piston with them, electrics are the weak point, sliding door locking wire breaks in the door shut boot, needs a 20k fuel filter not 40k, fussy about oil spec

Ive had my 1.5 dCi 90 for six years doing mobile beauty work and for what it cost me its been remarkable value. Fuel is the big one - im getting 45 mpg easily and over 50 if im careful, better than anything else i looked at. Its TARDIS like inside as well, looks tiny from the outside but you can get a surprising amount in, and with the passenger seat folded and the bulkhead flap open ill get nearly 2.9m of length in the Maxi. Downsides. Its very noisy at 70, drums away like an angry bee, and mine only has a mesh bulkhead which cant help. The handbrake is a known thing, the cam seizes in the on position and mine failed an MOT for it, and apparently you need to check the drum adjusters before you go fiddling with the cable. Steering wheel doesnt adjust for reach at all which i never really got used to. And theyre a nightmare to work on, my garage moans every single time. Timing belt is 72k or 5 years so dont skip that.

What I liked

Outstanding economy at 45 to 50 mpg, far cheaper than a Caddy for the same job, TARDIS like inside, folding passenger seat and bulkhead flap take nearly 2.9m of length, soaks up bumps well

Could be improved

Very noisy at motorway speeds, handbrake cam seizes on and fails MOTs, no reach adjustment on the steering wheel, a nightmare to work on, bland cabin plastics, timing belt at 72k or 5 years
