Used Volkswagen Transporter T5 Vans for Sale

Bought a 2013 T5.1 180 BiTDI 4Motion for the business because i wanted something that would pull a trailer and still be nice to sit in all day. The van itself is lovely, no complaints at all on the cabin or the way it drives, and the 4Motion earned its keep every winter. Problem is the engine. Started using oil around 80k, by 96k it was drinking a litre and a half every thousand km and the oil light was flickering at idle. Turns out the EGR cooler fins break up and the debris goes round in the oil and wrecks the bores. Its a known thing on the CFCA engines and only the later revision of the part fixed it. Dealer wanted the best part of 9 grand for a replacement engine. Do your homework before you buy one of these and get a proper oil consumption check done. Gutted, because i loved everything else about it.

Had this T5 2.5 TDI 130 since 2016 and converted it myself over a winter. Honestly the driving experience is what sold me - feels more like a big estate car than a van, and the seats are comfy enough that we did Scotland to Cornwall in one go. Getting around 42 mpg on a run which i wasnt expecting from the 5 pot. Downsides, and there are a few. Dual mass flywheel went at about 140k and that was £900 with the clutch done at the same time. Driveshaft splines wore out the year after, another £400ish. And check behind the wheelarch liners for rust, mine were packed with muck and the sills were starting to bubble. Would still buy another though. Camper values are mad at the moment so its held its money better than anything else ive owned.
